WHAT YOU NEED TO ATTEND OUR PRECISION RIFLE CLASS

01/14/2025

We get asked quite often what you NEED to take a Long Range class with Full Circle Reloading. The list of required gear, while not long, is essential for maximizing your learning experience and having the most fun.

This is the list of gear we REQUIRE for you to attend the class.

>>> Rifle capable of one MOA or better.

----Obviously you can't partake in a shooting class without a rifle so this is a must. Not only do you need that rifle, but it needs to be capable of 1"(or better) groups at 100 yards. You will be taking this rifle beyond 1000 yards and the rapidly stacking series of tolerances will exaggerate issues we see at 100 yards.

>>>Optic with exposed turret and enough internal elevation to DIAL to 1000 yards.

--- We will teach hold overs during the class but we will require you to dial for most of it. While the entire class could be taught using holdovers, getting you familiar with your optic and how to properly use it can only be done with, well, you actually using it. You will spend a lot of time dialing your elevation throughout the day and getting time with both holdovers and dialing for your windage. Capped adjustment optics will not be allowed during the class. We recommend a FFP Mil based optic but sfp or moa will absolutely work if you already have one on your rifle.

PLEASE BRING ALL TOOLS REQUIRED FOR YOUR OPTIC.

>>>Bipod and Rear Bag

--We are teaching you to become a proficient field shooters throughout this course. The reason that's important from teaching traditional square range precision is that we won't be shooting from a manicured line with concrete benches. You will need a front rest and nothing is better for field style precision than a quality bipod.

As a counterpart to that front rest, a bipod in this case, you need to have a rear bag. We have had mono-piods in the class before and they were sufficient but with their own series of issues to deal with. A Quality rear bag really is the best option.

We recommend Atlas Bipods and the Armageddon Gear Shmedium GameChanger

>>>Ballistic Calculator

--You must have a ballistic calculator downloaded and set up before the class. We will help you refine some of the inputs but service is limited at the range and you need to have your account created BEFORE coming to the class. The new Applied Ballistics app "AB Quantum" is fantastic and the Hornady 4DOF app is another we have had great success with. While I would love to see a line of nothing but Kestrels Ballistic Weather Meters, I am realistic and understand it isn't in everyones budget. Having the apps has proven sufficient and is an option for the shooter that is FREE. Although the Kestrels are a worthwhile investment and something we strongly recommend.

>>>120 Rounds of MATCH GRADE ammuniton

--This is an often overlooked portion of the class. Quality ammunition is an absolute requirement. We have found that students think a name brand hunting brand qualifies for match ammo and that is absolutely not the case. Winchester power point seems to be the go to for busget ammo and it just isn't consistent enough for 1000 yard precision rifle shooting. Leave that ammo relegated to midwest deer hunting and buy some quality ammo.

Hornady match

Federal Gold Metal Match

Berger ammo (even their hunting line is consistent enough for shooting at these distances)

ect, are all great options. Please have 120 rounds of the same ammo. The same weight ammo is not good enough. It actually needs to be the same brand, type and weight for you to be successful at distance.

>>>NOTE TAKING GEAR

--This one is pretty self explanatory. It's a class. There will be topics you want to write down. Bring what you need to do that. We recommend the Rite In The Rain Notebook line. It will hold up better than normal notebook paper and will still be useable when weather is less than ideal on the range.

NOW, the requirements are done. It truly doesn't take much to do this successfully. The next part of this will be the gear that's nice to have but isn't required. We will have supplemental gear available to use but getting use out of your own gear is obviously the best way to approach the class.

RECOMMENDED GEAR

-- Spotting device. Binoculars are preferred but spotting scopes work just fine. You can learn a tremendous amount from watching others shoot and can be an absolute asset to your learning experience.

--Tripod. As field shooters, this is an invaluable tool.  Whether we need to get stable on an otherwise unstable sutuation or get high enough off the ground to clear brush and debris while maintaining the stability required for precision, this is something we shouldn't over budget. A quality tripod will be worth it's cost when you need it most.

--Chronograph. As Precision Rifle Shooters, we need certain gear. While it isn't required for our class, this is a product you will want at some point. The only one we recommend at this point is the Garmin Xero but if you already own a chrono, then bring it out with you.

--Shooting Mat. This is an often overlooked item. Like we've mentioned several times already, we are teaching you to be proficient field shooters. Part of that is shooting in mud, dirt, gravel and sometimes concrete. If we don't HAVE to tough it out, then why do it. Bring one out if you have it, especially if weather is bad. You'll be more comfortable and that makes it easier to learn.

--Arm Board/Data Board. We will be engaging a variety of targets from 200-1000 yards. Rapid target engagement, quick calls and faster engagement will all rely on you having readily accessible data. Data boards help you accomplish that.

Don't let the gear list overwhelm you. It's straight forward and all but the shooting mat and tripod will fit in a backpack. It is the best way to maximize your learning and get the most out of your money and time investment to take the class.
